Annexation

When considering the boundaries of a town, city or village, annexation is the act of enlarging those boundaries by incorporating a property or properties. Those either living in or owning property within a municipality’s boundaries are residents. Individuals not living within a municipality live in the unincorporated area of the county.

Why is it beneficial to be a resident of Wesley Chapel?
  • Residents are permitted to vote for elected officials. These officials are responsible for shaping the culture of the Village.

  • Village boards and committees, such as the Planning Board, Board of Adjustments, and the Events and Program Committee, only allow for residents of the Village of Wesley Chapel to participate. The Boards are considered advisory to the Council in planning and zoning matters, and the Events and Program (E&P) Committee recommends events and programs for the public to the Council. And, the E&P Committee plans, advertises, organizes, and operates Village events as well!

  • As a resident of the Village, you are represented by people who live in your community and have more influence and impact regarding local issues.

  • Services such as Code Enforcement and Zoning Enforcement are offered to residents which help protect and maintain property values.

To be considered for annexation, the following must be true:
  • The property must be contiguous as defined by NC Statutes to the Village’s boundaries when presented to the Council for Consideration.

  • The petition must be signed by each of the owners of the real property for each of the properties petitioned.

  • The petition shall contain the addresses for each of the said owners.

  • A deed of Trust must be presented for each of the properties noted in the petition.
